Baseball Hall of Fame

I heard today that only 25% of the voters would vote Mark McGwire into the Hall of Fame. That is ludicrous, the man hit 583 HRs. Sure there is speculation that he used performance enhancers, but why start judging players for their off field behaviors now? Ty Cobb allegedly MURDERED a man. Mr. Cobb would also sharpen his spikes so that when he slid into a base he could spike the player covering the bag with intent to injure. Does this sound like a player with good sportsmanship habits? I am not saying Ty Cobb shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, he most definately should, but if he was not judged by his behaviors why should Mark McGwire? Babe Ruth, the greatest player EVER (fuck Barry Bonds), was an alcoholic, as was Mickey Mantle, but these two are in the hall deservedly so. What about the infamous leaded and unleaded coffee that was available in clubhouses around the majors in the 70's and 80's, or the greenies (uppers) available throughout the 70's in the clubhouses? None of these players were criticized for this or not voted in as a result of it. Mark McGwire averaged a HR every 10.6 at-bats. That is the best of any player ever. The Babe is next with an average of a HR every 11.7 at-bats. Here is a list of the top ten all-time HR leaders and their average number of at-bats/HR:

Henry Aaron--12364ab, 755hr, 16.38ab/hr
Barry Bonds(fucker)--9507ab, 734hr, 12.95ab/hr
Babe Ruth--8399ab, 714hr, 11.76ab/hr
Willie Mays--10881ab, 660hr, 16.49ab/hr
Sammy Sosa--8401ab, 588hr, 14.29ab/hr
Frank Robinson--10006ab, 586hr, 17.08ab/hr
Mark McGwire--6187ab, 583hr, 10.61ab/hr
Harmon Killebrew--8147ab, 573hr, 14.22ab/hr
Rafael Palmiero--10472ab, 569hr, 18.40ab/hr
Ken Griffey Jr--8298ab, 563hr, 14.74ab/hr
Reggie Jackson--9864ab, 563hr, 17.52ab/hr

As you can see McGwire has a better average than anybody in the top 10. I hate Barry Bonds, but I would vote him in based on his numbers (until the fact that he took steroids is proven--then he should never get in as far as I am concerned). Who is to say what the players of the past did to improve their game. For all I know Lou Gehrig was hooked on speed (or his era's equivalent) and jacked up before every game. I don't know and neither does anybody else, but he is in the Hall of Fame. All the players that have been voted into the Hall of Fame have been voted in based on their stats alone. This is how it should continue. I do not condone cheating, which is what Pete Rose and anybody that has taken performance enhancers has done, but unless it is proven that the player cheated (or admitted to cheating---see Pete Rose) they should not be judged based on speculation. Vote Mark McGwire into the Hall of Fame.
